Judith Goodchild has a commitment to representing patients’ interests in the NHS.  Since retiring she has been a public governor for West Somerset at Taunton and Somerset NHS Foundation Trust for the past nine years.  She has recently been appointed as a public governor for Somerset Partnership. She chairs the Quality and Patient Experience Group for both Trusts which has an oversight of patient experience and also, on behalf of the public, monitors the key performance indicators. Being a governor gives her an insight into the issues that concern patients but also some of the factors affecting the performance of the Trusts.

Judith is Chair of Healthwatch Somerset and represents them on the CCG Council of Governors and other committees as well as the Health and Wellbeing Board of Somerset County Council.  Healthwatch is a statutory partner with both the CCG and Somerset County Council.

Judith has a BSc(Hons) in environmental science and worked in the nuclear industry for many years. She was a special project manager for a range of projects, such as encouraging the public understanding of science. She has always been interested in education and worked specifically to encourage girls to consider science and engineering as a career.  Judith ended her career working as a lay inspector for education for Ofsted leading inspections in all phases of education including special schools.
