Current Somerset COVID-19 Vaccination Programme

In Somerset, we have been pulling out all the stops since the recent government announcement on 30 November, (that all eligible over 18’s would be invited to receive their booster by the New Year), to increase capacity for bookable and walk in slots across Somerset creating thousands more opportunities daily for our community to receive their COVID-19 vaccine.

We are now offering:

  • Booster vaccinations for all eligible over 18’s
  • 1st and second vaccinations for 12 -15’s and 16-17 year-olds
  • A roving service to offer vaccinations to those who are homebound
  • A third vaccination for people with severely weakened immune systems as part of their primary COVID-19 vaccination schedule.

It’s not too late to get your COVID-19 vaccination, as the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against the Corona-19 virus including the Omicron variant. We have plenty of walk in and bookable slots across Somerset at our community pharmacies, GP sites and main vaccination centres.

Our hard-working vaccination teams and volunteers are there to make vaccination clinics run as smoothly as possible. Please remember to be kind.

If you find you can book an earlier appointment, or decide to attend a walk-in clinic, then, please cancel any later appointment you aren’t planning to use.

How to find a book your vaccination or find a walk-in clinic

You can book your vaccination online or by calling 119 or visit a clinic for a walk-in appointment. You can find out which clinics are offering walk in appointments below. Additional walk in opportunities are shown on the Grab a Jab website.

Reducing your risk of being infected with Omicron

The UK Health Security Agency reported earlier in December, that there is a significant drop in effectiveness against the Omicron variant after two vaccines. However, analysis shows a third booster prevents around 75% of people getting Covid symptoms.

While symptoms of Omicron appear to be milder than other variants, it is likely there are many more cases of Omicron in the community than those confirmed by testing.

Scientists are concerned by the speed at which Omicron spreads.  If we do nothing, 1,000 cases in a day will soon become 8,000 in a week, and 64,000 in two weeks.

So far, the NHS has delivered over 22 million boosters.  The NHS is now asking everyone to come forward for their booster as soon as they are invited in a national effort to minimise the impact of this latest wave.

In this week’s Covid Catch Up, Clinton discusses the importance of the Covid vaccination during pregnancy and the risk of not being protected.

Fancy becoming a volunteer for the Somerset Covid Vaccination programme?

If you have a few hours to spare and want to get involved in a worthwhile cause, you could consider a volunteering role, supporting the COVID-19 vaccination programme in Somerset.

So far over 1,400 Somerset residents have volunteered to support the programme, volunteering at vaccinations sites across the county; it’s been a real team effort, but we still need more people to come forward and offer their time. Volunteers provide crucial support to the programme by marshalling in car parks, and helping people move through the vaccination centre. They also help to ensure that social distancing is followed and identifying people who need additional support or advice.

The role is flexible and full training is provided to those who volunteer.

Spark Somerset is helping to coordinate all of the volunteer stewards and marshals – so if you are interested in becoming part of an amazing team, working to protect our community please click here to register your interest: www.sparkachange.org.uk – and where you’ll find hundreds of other ways to volunteer in Somerset too!
